(GunReports.com) — More than 700 police officers, federal agents and lawmen from around the globe are expected to compete at NRA’s National Police Shooting Championships, to be held at Albuquerque, New Mexico’s Shooting Range Park Sept. 15-19.

The National Police Shooting Championships (NPSC) are a four day test of real law enforcement shooting skills. Each match begins with the gun holstered and the targets out of view. When the buzzer sounds, targets flip forward for limited amount of time as competitors draw their gun, aim and fire.

“Competitors from as far as Russia, Australia and Venezuela have repeatedly made the trip out to Albuquerque for NPSC,” said Glen Hoyer, director of NRA’s law enforcement division. “Thanks to the continued support of Governor Martinez, Mayor Berry, and the Albuquerque Police Department, we have the ability to stage one of the finest shooting competitions in the world.”

NPSC is divided into three separate scoring categories; revolver, semi-automatic pistol and shotgun. Each match is shot at a variety of distances (7, 15, 20, 25 and 50 yards) from a variety of positions (standing, supported, off-hand, kneeling, sitting and prone). The competitor with the highest combined score from the shotgun, revolver and semi-automatic matches will be named the National Grand Champion.

Last year’s winner, Senior Agent Robert Vadasz of the U.S. Border Patrol, returns for a chance at a 5th overall title.
