Obama Uses Tucson Shootings to Blame States for NICS Failures

(GunReports.com) -- President Barack Obama had a bylined op-ed in the Arizona Daily Star on Sunday. In it, he creates a fictional number of additional deaths attributable to guns since the Tucson shooting, suggests that gunowners ignore gun violence (we see it and want to protect ourselves from it!), blames states for shortfalls in the FBI National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) system rather than the federal government's implementation. But the real laugher is this: 'Third, we should make the system faster and nimbler. We should provide an instant, accurate, comprehensive and consistent system for background checks to sellers who want to do the right thing, and make sure that criminals can't escape it.'

Gene Taylor, sales manager over at our sister site GunReports.com, suggested I look at an item on the site entitled, 'Gunshow Operator Says Bloomberg Ran Entrapment Scam at Arizona Gun Show.' Taylor said, 'I'd heard that [New York City Mayor Michael] Bloomberg was thinking about a presidential run. After his latest stunt in Arizona, I think he can shelve that idea.'

Interchanging 308/7.62 Ammo

I look forward to reading your magazine cover-to-cover. Over the years I have learned a lot, not just about the guns but also about choices of ammunition and potential hazards in both gun and ammunition choices. That is why I paid particular attention to Ray Ordorica's response to a Firing Line on feeding 308 Win ammo into an M14 variant. I can't argue with the statements that 7.62 is the right ammo for the M14 and that it should not be used with standard 308 ammo. However, Ray went further than that and stated: '…it ought not be a gas-driven semiauto such as the M14 variants.' The 'such as' led me to think in terms of other 'gas-driven semiautos.'

Weirdness in the Ammo Market

As the holidays arrive and we all think about buying presents for our loved ones, I wonder if we’ll have any money left over...
