Connecticut State Police Award Pistol Contract to SIG Sauer

(GunReports.com) — SIG Sauer, a U.S.-based leading manufacturer of law enforcement and military firearms, is pleased to announce that the Connecticut State Police has selected the SIG SAUER P220 as the agency’s next service firearm.

The CSP conducted independent testing of several .40- and .45-caliber handguns from a number of manufacturers, including several SIG SAUER models. At the conclusion of the testing, the Connecticut State Police selected the .45-caliber P220 due to its ergonomic design, accuracy and proven reliability. The contract calls for more than 1,200 pistols to be delivered before the end of 2012.

The Connecticut State Police, a division of the Connecticut Department of Emergency Services and Public Protection, is responsible for traffic regulation and law enforcement across the state, especially in areas not served by local police departments. The CSP currently has approximately 1,200 troopers and is headquartered in Middletown, Connecticut.

The agency’s new P220s will be delivered in time for current class of State Police Trooper trainees to be the first troopers to carry the new sidearms
