One of the signs a pistol platform is gaining wide acceptance is that the competitive community begins using it to win matches.
GunReports.com has learned that the S&W’s M&P9 Pro Series pistol was used in its first competitive win at the 2008 Texas State International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) Championship.
Competing in the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) Division, Team Smith & Wesson member Gordon Carrell placed first overall while also earning first place in the Master Class using the M&P9 Pro Series pistol.
Said Carrell, “One of the things I especially like about the M&P9 Pro Series pistol is the longer sight radius. It allowed me to acquire the sights faster and more accurately place shots as I transitioned between the targets.”
The full-size polymer pistol is chambered in 9mm and features a 5-inch barrel with an overall length of 8.5 inches. The M&P9 Pro Series pistol is standard with a dovetail fiber-optic green front sight along with a Novak-designed reduced glare rear sight.
The M&P9 Pro Series pistol features a 4- to 5-pound trigger pull and a 17-round magazine capacity.
In other good news for S&W, Jerry Miculek was the overall winner at the 17th Annual Smith & Wesson International Revolver Championship (IRC) held last weekend at the Hogue Action Pistol Range in Morro Bay, California.
Miculek, competing in the Open Division with his Smith & Wesson Model 627, won his 16th IRC championship title while extending his record streak of back-to-back title victories since competing in the 1993 IRC match.
Also, in the Limited Division, Smith & Wesson sponsored shooter Annette Aysen was named the Ladies National Champion. Aysen, who also used a Performance Center Model 627, was able to capture her first championship title in only her third IRC appearance.
