(GunReports.com) — The UZI PRO semi-auto pistol designed for the American consumer market is now available. The $1100 UZI PRO UPP9S semi-auto pistol is based on the UZI sub-machine gun (SMG), designed and patented by Uziel Gal, who gave the production rights to the Israeli Ministry of Defense. IWI US, Inc., a subsidiary of Israel Weapon Industries (IWI), imports the firearm domestically.

The semi-automatic UZI PRO pistol is chambered in 9mm Para. and is blowback-operated from a closed bolt. The MIL-SPEC cold-hammer-forged CrMoV barrel has 4 grooves and a 1:10 RH twist and measures 4.5 inches in length. The pistol’s overall length is 9.5 inches. It weighs 3.66 lbs.

The polymer pistol grip incorporates an integrated magazine release button for fast and easy magazine changes. The cocking handle is located on the receiver side, allowing for a full-length Picatinny rail on the top receiver cover. A short Picatinny rail is also mounted below the barrel.

The new pistol features three safety mechanisms; a conventional manual safety, a firing pin block and a grip safety that must be depressed before the gun can be cocked and fired. It comes with one 20-round and one 25-round magazine.

IWI US, Inc., located in Harrisburg, PA, also imports the TAVOR SAR bullpup rifle.
