FAIRFAX, Virginia – The Boy Scouts of America are looking for volunteers to help with the shooting sports events at their 100th anniversary in 2010.
Collectively known as the National Scout Jamboree Shooting Sports Competition, the events take place at Fort A.P. Hill in Virginia. The NRA’s Youth Programs department, part of the NRA’s Education and Training Division, is handling the safety supervision of the events.
Taking place July 26 – August 4, 2010, the administration of the shooting sports Merit Badge Midway and the various discipline-specific Action Area ranges (shotgun, air rifle, black powder rifle) will depend heavily on NRA-Certified Range Safety Officers (RSO) and Instructors.
“We want to give potential volunteers a heads-up on becoming qualified to participate in the shooting events—well ahead of time—to ensure a successful event in 2010,” explained Chip Lohman, Youth Programs Coordinator.
If you would like to participate and have not yet attained your NRA certifications for RSO or Instructor, there is still time. Attend an Instructor or RSO Class during 2008-2009.
