(GunReports.com) — Two iconic Hollywood firearms will go to auction July 30, auction house Profiles In History has announced.
Actor Chuck Conners’ 44-40 Winchester rifle from the TV show The Rifleman will be up for sale in lot #369.
Michael Landon carried the second gun, a .38 Special Colt Single-Action Army made in 1956, while playing Little Joe Cartwright on the show Bonanza. It will be sold in lot #372.
Chuck Connors played “Lucas McCain” with this modified 44-40 Winchester rifle in The Rifleman, which ran on ABC-TV from 1958-1963. Lucas McCain was said to be able to fire a round with his specially modified Winchester rifle in three-tenths of a second.
The secret: A setscrew built into the oversized action lever, which would depress the trigger when the action was closed. This is a beautiful, screen-used custom modified 44-40 Winchester model 1892, saddle ring carbine (serial number 497689) manufactured in 1909. The breech block has been reblued. The rifle has overall wear, and the rear stock exhibits an old repair where Connors spin-cocked the rifle and dropped it, splitting the wood. Overall in Very Good operational condition with proper quick-fire action. $40,000 –$60,000.
Michael Landon played “Little Joe Cartwright” in Bonanza, the long-running classic Western family drama that ran on NBC-TV from 1959-1973. The original live-firing Colt Single-Action Army .38 Special revolver used by Landon as “Joe Cartwright” has serial number 4131SA marked below the barrel of the revolver, indicating that the piece was made in 1956. It is originally from the property of the family of Michael Landon and accompanied by a signed letter by Mrs. Lynn Landon, which states in part, “…was used by Michael Landon throughout his appearance in Bonanza, both on the series and for personal appearances as well. The estimated auction price is $12,000 – $15,000.
